This mead was just started about two weeks ago, but I think it will turn out well. Only time will tell.

Ingredients:
15lbs of honey (9lbs of clover and 6lbs if orange blossom)
Two large oranges
5/8 lbs of ginger root
1 TSP yeast nutrient
Lalvin D-47 Yeast

Procedure:
Disolve honey in two gallons of water
Heat to 160 degrees
Hold for 30 mins
Add water to bring to 5 gallons

Cool to 70 degrees
Add cut orange and ginger to fermenter
Pour cooled must into fermenter
Add yeast nutrient
Add rehydrated yeast
Shake vigorously

Original gravity: 1.126
Final Gravity: will post when available

Notes:
Expected to finish semi-sweet without back sweetening (based on original gravity plus selection of yeast addition).

Looks like a good one! I love D-47 for mead. Where do you get your honey?

The clover was picked up at Aldi and the orange blossom at Publix. We're trying to find a good local source.

I've done a little research into beekeeping, but it's kind of expensive to get going. Once you get past the initial cost (a few hundred dollars) it would be well worth it (50-60 lbs of honey per hive). Maybe I can get a couple of hives going by next spring.

Ed Johnson is on Dickerson Rd in Goodlettsville. He is one of the main beekeeper suppliers in TN. He can sell you honey and whatever beekeeping supplies/bees you need. You can get 60 lbs of dark wildflower for $105 from him. I just bought some wildflower and Florida orange blossom and have 3 meads going right now. I can't wait!

We got this one into some bottles last night. The final gravity was 1.022. We'll bring a bottle to a meeting in the near future.

If you want an objective opinion before the meeting, feel free to bring a bottle, or three, by the house Twisted Evil

If we do that then your wife will insist that your next batch be a mead....
